Massacres by gunfire set a new record in the United States this year, surpassing 610 in the deadliest year for gun violence in modern US history. <br><br>Monday’s carnage in Virginia killed eight people and injured one. Also on Monday, a gunman opened fire at a high school in Texas, killing one student and injuring another, police said. <br><br>As of Wednesday, there have been 612 mass shootings this year, by the Gun Violence Archive’s count. The violence has claimed 7,210 lives and injured the lives of 9,237 more. The previous record of 609 was reported in 2021. The New York Times.<br><br>Edit: A 13-year-old boy died after a gunfire attack in Chicago Tuesday afternoon, police said. Nine minors were shot in the attack, including the young teen.
