My parents were hippies. It was normal to have bugs and critters in and around the house. Of course it wasn't perfect, but the bugs and humans coexisted.

For that brief time between wars, the US was really prosperous and the effects of the Industrial revolution were still relatively under control. People and pests still coexisted.

But the baby boomers grew up and had kids. They were all about prevention. Bug bombs for homes. Pesticides for gardens. They thought they could prevent bugs in their space by spraying something.

But they didn't realize those products were actually creating more problems. They created more pests.

And then the Gen-Yers grew up. We were all about trying to save the planet. We were all about organic and non-toxic and natural. We were all about eliminating pests.

And then our kids grew up. They are the zoomers.

The zoomers are the first generation in all of history to live their entire lives with the knowledge that something is horribly wrong with the planet and its inhabitants. They came into the world knowing we were in a climate emergency.

Even the Gen-Yers didn't grow up with that knowledge.

The zoomers are the first to fully realize something must be done and that something must be done differently.

We need to live with and accommodate pests.

We have to stop eliminating them.

The zoomers realize that.

Many zoomers think the seedbugs are not pests at all, but rather welcome friends.

Maybe this is a new era. Nine we can live with, not in spite of, but with the pests.

It's time to change something.
