* I just want to emphasize what a blight AI has already been on society in general and the body of human knowledge

so far, and how it will only continue to be so. A few examples, some of which are anecdotal:

* I was on r/TrueOffMyChest a few nights ago (I think I won't be able to post the link because I'm in the new) and I saw a thread from a doctor that apparently goes for a little self-pleasure at the end of the day. In the comments, some people were like "ok so I guess I'll never be able to work out now". Another example is a fitness channel that I subscribe to that posts a little 5 minute lunch break workout every week. Just some easy exercises to stretch and move around. I think I look at the comments twice and there was an argument already underway about how to fit this into a medical schedule of 12 hour shifts with night shifts and weekends. I appreciate how doctors are crucial and our health is the priority, but it also kind of shows how out of their league they are when it comes to the real world and how little they understand the value of money and time. There's no need to vent that onto other people, and we need to hold doctors more accountable for their elitist behavior.

I was reading a thread on a book chamber that I found about an interesting multi-perspective novel and some dude chimed in with "so how much AI was used to write this book?". Pretty much an irrelevant question to the OP who asked for book recommendations, and that thread just turned into an AI debate. The comments were already getting out of hand and I think we'll be seeing this phenomenon more and more.

* Generative AI is often used as a justification to attack science and the scientific method. For example, apparently some researchers at Princeton found that over 70% of the current research in the top 15 journals is significantly flawed or contains no citation, thereby rendering the results invalid. Obviously, researchers who can't write their own papers will often plagiarize AI results. This result was weaponized by a prominent libertarian (perhaps anti-science) YouTuber to attack multi-disciplinary science and "wake up science" to AI. The fact that Generative AI has emboldened junk science simply underscores how I*diots have used AI as a justification to assail science and good morality.

* I think it was mentioned in the comments here that apparently some 90% of Wikipedia edits are now done by AI? This is utterly insane and an affront to humanity. So much humanity wasted on an online encyclopedia that has effectively been rendered useless. I have never used Wikipedia in my life and I hate when that's the only source cited. I have never used Wikipedia in my life.

* Pretty much an open secret that AI is used to write the majority of children's books now. I have no idea how these authors justify this and call it their own work. Meanwhile, I'm scratching out original drafts by hand with pencil and paper.

* It is utterly insane that the majority of web3 and cryptocurrency is written and pushed by AI. There is no human intelligence behind this and the entire field is utterly useless to me. Cryptocurrency is nothing but hype and a justification to get rich quick by gambling and burning our planet.

* Going into my last point, Generative AI has been used as a justification to cripple our economy. People are being let go from their jobs, students are being thrown into debt, and entire industries are being decimated. Obviously, this is a massive undertaking, but it's an example of how intimately Generative AI has become tied to the economies of the world. I think it's safe to say that our economy is circling the drain and Generative AI has been used as a justification to worsen the situation by kicking out the chair.

* Generative AI has emboldened people to be lazy, apathetic, and stupid. I was reading a thread on a chambers where medical students were asking about the best ways to get motivated to study. It was a really sad thread and I think you might be able to find it with a search. One of the comments was "well everyone's in the same boat now. It's not like you can just make AI do it for you and sit back. Be grateful that you have a great deal of options and try to find your way to stay motivated. That's what I have to say."
