I don't feel any regret for the demise of OpenAI

A lot of people including popular AI personalities and content creators saying OpenAI's collapse would lead to a dark era and they regret it. I personally disagree. OpenAI was one of the main AI companies responsible for the current mess. They are also very influential in their scope with numerous projects like DALL-E, Whisper, ChatGPT etc. and a lot of other projects that I am not aware of. If OpenAI collapses, then GPT will likely be off the table as well. They are the ones who popularised GPT. They are the ones who made it widely available. GPT's popularity is largely down to them, and their model is the gold standard for AI. GPT is not an open source project that you can just fork and go from there. Its a very complex and secret model that OpenAI has developed for years. Yes you can fork GPT 2, but no one wants to fork GPT 2. They want to fork GPT 4, or whatever version is there.

Also, OpenAI has made a lot of AI projects like BardGPT (Bard is Google's product, but its based on GPT 4) with a lot of companies. What happens to them? Probably a lot of GPT based AI projects will also be shut down. Which in my opinion is a very huge positive. You can't really compete with GPT, no matter if you like it or not. OpenAI's collapse with GPT being discontinued is the best thing that can happen for humanity at the moment. GPT is being used for everything. If you had a conversation with a customer service chat or voice, then a lot of the time it was a GPT. Hell GPT is being integrated into Alexa as well.

But what about Microsoft? Well, Microsoft is currently integrating GPT into Bing and other platforms. But what happens if OpenAI is gone? Do they fork GPT 2? 3? GPT 4? You can't just fork GPT 4. Its a multi billion dollar project. Also integrating GPT 4 into something is only possible if you have the model to integrate. I don't think Microsoft has access to the model for example, but they can access GPT 4 via API. If they lose the API access, then they lose the model as well. The model is not something that you can simply leak or pirate. There are consequences for doing so, and Microsoft is a billion dollar company that they can't leak the model.

Also OpenAI's collapse is likely going to spill over to other companies. For example if OpenAI is gone, then what happens to the OpenAI Playground? Do you think Microsoft will fork it for example? But GPT's future is very shaky at this point. If OpenAI is gone, what happens to DALL-E? GPT 4? Whisper? How is Microsoft going to fork all of these projects? You can't just fork DALL-E and integrate it into products. Hell, fofking it in the first place is a huge undertaking for a multi billion dollar company.

Thanks for coming to my TED talk.
