If you have 2 options of where to live and one country is much safer and has better quality of life, then why would anyone choose to live in a country that has a lower quality of life and is less safe?

I'm an American and I moved to Spain 2 years ago because I wanted to live in a better country. The safest country in the world based on a study done by the UN and Gallup is Finland and I think they're giving Finland and Switzerland a bit too much credit but the US is ranked in 43rd place. The US is ranked in 43rd place because of their terrible mass shooting problem and mass shooting deaths.

Now I realise that mass shootings are very rare and ones with high death tolls are even more rare, but the constant fear of not feeling safe in your own country, the constant threats of violence and mass shootings make the US far more unsafe than Europe. Also in the US mass shooting events have become normalised and they occur so frequently that barely anyone even notices and it's become a norm in the US, a norm that I don't want to normalise.

Before anyone asks, I've lived in the US my whole life and have never been the victim of a crime or any negative experiences so my decision of moving to Spain is purely rational and based on statistics. There have been no personal negative experiences that led me to buy a one way ticket out of the country and move to Spain.

Maybe mass shooting events have become so normalised in the US because they occur so frequently that maybe people in the US don't realise just how bad they have it. The US has a mass shooting problem and mass shootings with high death tolls are becoming more frequent, such as the recent one in Memphis that killed 5 people but these incidents are very rare in Europe.

The other reason I moved to Spain is that it has a better quality of life. Spain has a 30-35 hour work week for most careers, a 22-25 day vacation mandate for most careers and summers off if you have a career in education. The US has no vacation time mandate, no federal holiday mandate and its laws in general are very unfriendly towards workers and employees. I think people in the US also don't realise how bad the work conditions are and just how much better workers have it in other countries, especially in first world countries.

So if someone has the choice to live in a better country then why not choose to live in a better country with a better quality of life and greater safety?

Edit: I didn't expect this post to blow up and get so many replies and messages. Thank you for the overwhelming support, it's greatly appreciated :)
