The most people in Asia, Europe speak at least two languages. What the hell is wrong with Americans?

I've been living in Europe and Asia for years and people are usually shocked to hear that Americans only speak one language. Even now that I live in Taiwan, everyone I meet speaks Taiwanese/Mandarin/English. And all of these languages are hard as hell too, I've been trying to learn Taiwanese for years and have given up multiple times. No one judges you for speaking with an accent or speaking poorly either. But in America, if you have an even slightly noticeable accent or don't speak perfect English, you'll get treated poorly. I think there is something seriously wrong with our culture that we refuse to allow multiple languages.
