So I'm 28 and my wife is 26. We have a 2.5 year old and a 5 month old. We have only just started saving for their future college expenses. We put $50/month into savings for the 2.5 year old and $0/month into savings for the 5 month old. Now we just opened a 529 plan with a $50/month contribution for each. I've been learning a lot about how to fund the 529 plan and I'm going to take advantage of some tax benefits our state offers, but I'm looking for general advice on how to best plan for their financial future. What are some good strategies you've used or learned about?

Side note: I work in higher education and have a lot of faith that there will be plenty of affordable options for higher education in the future. I don't think college is going to be as expensive as people predict.
