My wife has been peeking at me from around corners and behind furniture. It's gone from weird to terrifying

We’ve been married three years now. My wife is the most beautiful, smart, and lovely woman I’ve ever met. I love her more than anyone else in the world. However, she has one habit that is starting to drive me completely insane.

Whenever she’s home, she constantly is peeking at me from around corners, over the top of furniture or from behind objects. When I say constantly, I mean *constantly*. I will be sitting on the couch reading a book for example, and catch her peeking over the top of the back of the couch. If I’m in the kitchen, she’ll be peeking from around the door island. If I’m on the computer, she’ll be peeking from behind the curtains (she’s 5’10, I should mention we have really tall ceilings so she can easily look over the top of the curtains).

It doesn’t matter where I am or what I’m doing, she always has to be peeking at me. It got so bad that I could hear her shifting her weight on the other side of the door while she was peeking at me. I could hear the curtains rustling as she moved to peek over them. It got to the point where It didn’t even matter if I could see her, I could always tell that she was peeking.

It bothered me at first but I thought maybe she just liked watching me. I’ve always been told I’m physically pretty good looking. It’s probably just something that couples do (I’m still pretty new to the whole marriage thing). I’ve tried to peek back at her but she scurries off whenever I look her way. This is what spurns her to peek more.

Then one day it got to me. She had been peeking nonstop for like three hours while I was preparing some reports for work. I had had enough. I decided to scare her by getting her when she comes around the corner, and just yelling at her to scare her. So I waited (still focusing on my reports). I could hear her weight shift, and I knew here she came.

I yelled at the top of my lungs, and jumped out of my seat. But no one was there. This happened three more times, and I thought maybe I was going crazy. Was she not peeking anymore? Had she gotten over it? Should I be flattered?

So, I decided to go to the kitchen and make myself a sandwich. I walked in the kitchen and I could vividly remember her peeking over the top of the kitchen island at me. So I thought I’d set a trap. I got down on the floor and peeked over the edge of the island. My heart skipped a beat when I saw two eyes peeking back at me. I didn’t see a face or teeth or a mouth. Just two eyes looking back at me.

My first thought was that it was my house cat. But I vividly remember those two eyes. They were exactly like my wifes. I don’t mean they were similar, or close. I mean they were identical. I slowly got up off the floor (in case it was actually my cat) and there was no one there. The same thing happened again and again for the rest of the day.

That night, I couldn’t sleep. And whenever I looked over at my wife, I could feel those two eyes looking at me. I figured I was just going crazy from all the peeking and decided to go to sleep.

The next day my wife went out to go shopping. When she was gone I moved all of the furniture away from the walls. Lately it had been getting worse and I was starting to loose it. But with all the furniture away from the walls, there was no one for her to peek behind.

She came home angry at about 8 that night. She told me that she didn’t like the furniture pushed away from the walls, it made her uncomfortable. I told her fine, I’d move it back if she stopped peeking at me. She told me she wasn’t peeking. I told her not to lie to me. That I knew she was peeking. I said I had even caught her at it once. She just looked at me weird and told me that peeking was herуществs trait.

It's been two weeks since then. I've noticed that every morning when I wake up, everything is about 1 inch away from the walls. I pushed it about a foot away from the walls every night before bed, so it takes a bit of force to push it all one inch away from the walls every night. I'm starting to go a little crazy.

Edit:

For those of you asking why I didn't ask her about it right away, I was afraid of her thinking I was crazy. It's a bit of a touchy subject for her. She had a sister who went insane after college, and killed herself. She claims it may have been genetic, and that she worries she will go crazy too one day.

I tried to set security cameras up in the house, but none of them work. Even the doorbell camera doesn't work.

I've thought about the peeking being my house cat, but we have a room that the cat is not allowed in, and she was peeking in there too.
