CMV: The people who (justifiably) filmed the police, placing themselves in harm’s way to help others is what should be talked about in every media outlet (just like the police is guilty of an atrocity in every media outlet)

I’m starting this thread because I want to point out someone who is doing a lot for equality, community and humanity (others could learn a thing or two from). But it isn’t the police, celebrities, influencers, leaders, activists etc who are doing the most. It’s the people who are letting the world see this.

I’m European (non American, but still feeling affected and angry, and sympathy with everyone in the US (and every black person)), and it was still possible to not believe it was real, or that it was an isolated incident. This is not a personal attack on police officers, like every profession there are (justified) exceptions, and there are good police officers, but this is a massive issue about systemic racism, which the system seems to be empowering and allowing.

What seems to be happening is masses of people are wanting a revolution or change (which seems to be not going anywhere), while people are placing themselves in harm’s way (for example George Floyd’s neighbours) by filming and recording the issue. This is what is making a tangible difference. This footage is what is causing change, not the masses of rioting. This is what is placing pressure on the system, and getting the system to take care of itself.

If you want to help the community, inform people, and get people talking (which is what seems to be wanted) record the injustices you see. These are the people doing the most good.

EDIT: To clarify, I’m not saying rioting is unjustified. It is completely justified. I’m saying rioting doesn’t change anything. The change comes from the people who are willing to be an independent witness, and bring attention to, and put a face to the injustice, and put the issue on the masses agendas.
