So, there is this new drug. It’s pretty much a pill you take that will prevent you from needing sleep for a few weeks. It’s pretty simple. The drug is currently illegal, and that is why my friend and I attempted to make a bet out of it. A few days before I took the drug, I was reading my local newspapers when I stumbled upon an article that really caught my attention. A girl had gone missing in the town on I live in. I looked at the picture and I immediately recognized her. She was a very popular student at my school, and one of my classmates. I continued reading the article, especially the last paragraph that told people to report her if they witnessed her anywhere. I threw the paper away and forgot about it.

So, my friend and I made a bet about who can go the longest without sleeping. The person who loses has to give the winner $500. So, my friend and I took the drug and waited. The very first few days went smoothly, and neither of us were feeling tired. On the 11th day, I found myself having no energy, and felt extremely tired, but I pushed through it and it went away. I texted my friend, and he said that he’s feeling a little tired, but he was also able to get rid of it. By the 13th day, I was extremely exhausted, but I was still able to work through it. I texted my friend that day and he told me that he lost the bet. I walked to the address he gave me and I collected the $500. He told me that he was extremely tired, and that there is no way he would be able to go on for another day. We locked the door and I walked home with the money.

When I reached home, I decided to keep the money in my room. I felt so proud of myself. I looked at the money for a few minutes, and then put it under my bed sheet and went to sleep. I woke up the next morning and I noticed a piece of paper under my bed sheet. My first thought was that I finally I lost the bet and he would get his $500 back. But, when I unfolded the paper, I saw a note that read: “I missed you so much. -Michelle”. I knew who Michelle was. She was the girl I read about in the newspaper a few days before I took the drug with my friend. I immediately pulled out all of the money from under the bed sheet, and looked at all of the hundred dollar bills. None of them had Michelle’s handwriting. I then realized that my friend didn’t write that note. I tried to force myself to go back to sleep, but I couldn’t. I went downstairs to grab something to eat, and I saw that the back door was wide open. I walked up to it and closed it, and walked back to the fridge to get something to eat. As I was about to open the fridge, I heard a noise. It sounded like a girl crying. I turned around and I didn’t see anyone. I walked towards the noise and it sounded louder. I then saw a girl crying with her hands over her face. It was Michelle. I was so shocked, and I didn’t know what to do. I asked her if she was okay, and if I can do anything to help her. She looked at me and she said, “you don’t remember me, do you?” I was confused, and I told her that she is my classmate, and that I read about her in the newspapers. She cried even more and asked me how long it has been since she went missing. I told her that I took the drug 14 days ago, and that I read the article a few days before that. She told me that she has been living with me here for what felt like years. I told her that I have no memory of her ever being here. She asked me what my name was, and my first thought was, “how would she not know my name?”. I told her that my name was Will, and she told me that her name was Michelle. She then said, “I’m so sorry Will. I hate to do this to you, but I have no choice”. And that’s all I remember.
