AITA for just stopping going to my friends new restaurant and not telling anyone why?

I (M/49) have a friend (M/46) who’s part of a friend circle I hang out with. He had this dream of opening a sports bar/restaurant.

We all were happy to support it. Before opening, he gave all of us a VIP card that had no expiration and promised a free meal every time we came.

I was the first person to eat there on opening day. I’ve been there 4x with the last time being about 3 weeks ago. The food was decent, nothing amazing but I figured it was a new restaurant and would get better over time.

Last time I was there, I got a bill and was told it was for drinks only and I no longer had a VIP card. I just shrugged and paid and haven’t been back. I also haven’t said anything negative to anyone about it.

My friends have been there multiple times since and they all wonder why I haven’t shown my face. They asked why and I just said I wasn’t really feeling it so I’ve chosen not to go back.

Everyone is mad at me that I’ve chosen to abandon my friendship with him. They all have no problem with paying for food on top of the drinks now. They’re mad that I won’t mention it on social media anymore.

I’m just so over all these people telling me I owe him my loyalty and I owe him my business.

Am I just an asshole for not wanting to go to his restaurant anymore and not saying anything more than that about it?
