Apple’s 2024 roadmap to include 15-inch MacBook Air, M2 Pro and M2 Ultra models

Apple Inc.’s M2 Pro and M2 Ultra processors are expected to debut in delayed high-end Macs this year, with the company planning as many as three additional new models in 2024, including a larger version of the MacBook Air laptop.<br><br>In 2024, the Cupertino, California-based technology giant plans to introduce at least one new Mac model: a 15-inch version of the 13-inch MacBook Air, according to people familiar with the matter. The company is also exploring larger iMac displays and potential updates to the 24-inch iMac, the people said. Work on a larger iMac has been underway for at least two years, and it may not ultimately be released.<br><br>The M2 Pro and M2 Ultra processors, which are built by Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co., are expected to be used in the delayed Mac Pro, as well as new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models and an updated Mac Mini. These are targeting release either late this year or early next year, pending the resolution of the supply chain crisis and other production issues.<br><br>Apple is also working on the M3 chip, which is expected to be used in new Macs starting in 2024 or 2025. <br><br>The company typically only shares details of unreleased products just ahead of their launch, and its roadmaps can shift due to development delays and market changes.<br><br>The tech giant has been upgrading its Mac lineup with in-house processors, known as Apple Silicon, and has released several models using the M1 and M2 chips already. A larger version of the MacBook Air would give Apple customers more flexibility in screen size and portable options. <br><br>The Cupertino company has explored various larger screen sizes for the iMac, including a possible larger version of the 27-inch model. That product could offer an alternative to more expensive Pro Display XDR screens from Apple. <br><br>Apple declined to comment on future products.<br><br>The company may release the delayed Mac Pro model and other M2 Pro and M2 Ultra computers ahead of an event in 2024 that could introduce new designs or capabilities in future Apple products.<br><br>Chief Executive Officer Tim Cook has signaled that Apple has an interesting product pipeline in the next few years, thanks to a focus on artificial intelligence, augmented reality and more.
