CMV: The people saying "It's not about race, it's about the crime" are either disingenuous trolls or fools.

I've seen countless responses in the various George Floyd threads saying things like "The cops don't care if you're black or white. If you're committing a crime, they're going to arrest you." They say shit like this as if it disproves the fact that there is a chronic issue of police brutality towards black people. Anybody who actually thinks this either has their head in the sand, or they're being purposefully obstinate.

This isn't like some people are saying "all cops are bad" or anything like that. But rather, that there is a disproportionate number of incidents of police brutality/crime against black people than white people, and it's not just because of the crime rate. Even if you can't or won't admit that racism is a factor in these incidents, you need to admit that there is a HUGE problem.

This isn't even like a political issue. This is an American issue. It's an issue of human rights. The vast majority of cops are good people who are just doing their jobs, and they would never abuse their power. But, there is a large enough percentage of them who regularly abuse their power, particularly against black people, that it is an issue that needs to be addressed.

Further, even if you subscribe to the "It's not about race, it's about the crime" view, you need to look at the crime and see that this was more than just an arrest gone wrong. The cop murdered this guy on camera in broad daylight. There is no disputing that The cop who knelt on George's neck and the others who helped pin him down and stood by as he begged for air for the last minutes of his life are criminals who need to be charged as such.

Edit: I said this was an American issue, but police brutality such as this is an issue all over the world, and it needs to stop.

Edit2: I think some people are misunderstanding what I mean by "chronic issue of police brutality towards black people". This doesn't mean that this is something that all cops do all the time, but rather that it happens enough that it's a serious issue that needs to be resolved. I'm not talking about your everyday interaction with the police (most of which are peaceful), I'm talking about these specific instances were people die because of unneeded police force. The reason this is a chronic issue is because these incidents happen far more regularly than they should, and far more regularly against black people. This is to the point where many black people don't feel safe when interacting with the police because they've been culturally conditioned to expect an unreasonable amount of hostility and aggression from the police, like we saw in the video of George Floyd's arrest.
