I just stole from a non-profit. Am I a bad person?

I just stole from a non-profit.

My justification is that I was on staff and they were not paying me for my time. It was meant to be a volunteer position, but every time money issues came up in the communication, I was told that volunteering would lead to paid work in the future. When asked about staffing, they were very transparent about their financial issues, and how much of their money goes to their landlord's pocket.

The organization and landlords are owned by an old money family, and they are in a bad position to be making any demands. I have been an active part of this community, volunteered for the last 2 years, and recently moved to an on staff position. I have been there for 2 months. At the end of my first month, they paid me with a 2 month old check from a grant they received for that only made payments in physical checks. I took the hint that they had no intention of paying me. So I started making an extra 100 or 200 a month for myself, by taking a big from the till every evening before I closed up.

It is a very short term position. I am moving at the end of the month. It has not affected them, and I do not think they will notice. I only do this on days when I am the only one there in the morning. I make sure to do a full count of everything, and I get in right at 9. I am in charge of the till. I always make sure to take a small portion. I do not want to hurt the community, and I am simply taking what they owe me. I make sure to log the money, but I pocket it. I make sure to give receipts for everything that is claimed. This is only 08-5, and only when I am alone. I do not steal on evenings when I am not closing, because I do not want any suspicion when I close up.

I do not do this for the money. I need the money, but even if I did not, I would do this anyway. I do this because they owe me money, and I am just taking my pay. I do not think of this as stealing in the way a shoplifting is. I think of it as I am taking the money I deserve. I was in this for 30 mins in the morning. During my 08-5 shift, I never steal anything else. I only do this once a day. I never took anything else from the till. I would give my last dime to the community before I took something else from the till. Since I know I am taking money, I am very strict about keeping receipts and logging everything. I always keep the till full, and I always make sure to close up properly at the end of the day. I never touched the register on the main floor. I only took the petty cash from my desk drawer, which I had the key for. I never touched the money box. Only the till.

I watched the camera and made sure no one was recording, and I waited til I was alone. I knew the other employees did not care about the money, and they would not care that I took it. I knew the superiors were not there to see it, and they would not check in the till.

Is it wrong to do this? Should I feel bad? I don't feel bad, just worried I will be caught and brought to court. The non-profit is part of a larger chain, and they do have a lot of money. I am only taking 100 a week. It is not a lot of money.
