Hardcore Minimalism Leads To Depression

Since the quarantine I've been watching more hardcore minimalism videos than ever before, and I've learned a lot and benefited by decluttering and getting rid of a lot of unnecessary items that I've been holding onto for years, but I don't think you need to be extreme about it to be a minimalist. There are a lot of things in my life that I can get rid of because they're pointless, but there are things that I can't let go of because they do provide some kind of comfort or function to my daily life. I don't think anyone should be made to feel bad about keeping things that they want to.

But hardcore minimalism videos usually guilt trip you into getting rid of most of your belongings, and say that you'll become a whole different person by doing this. I don't know if anyone here has an opinion on this, but I think it just leads to depression, and in some cases it can lead to depersonalization disorder. What about your personality? What about your hobbies and interests? You can't just throw everything that you like away and still be a whole person can you? I don't think that is what minimalism is about at all.
