Question about using an API

Hi there everyone.

My question has been asked before in this sub, but I wanted to know if things have changed since then.

I am building a web app that I want to send all comments from a thread on a specific platform to another platform. Now here is my question. Do you use an API to do this? (I do know how to use APIs).

I have tried and the rate limit on the platform's API is too low for what I want to do, so I was wondering if it is illegal (legally) to bypass the API and download the comments from one platform and post them on another? Like would that be fine or would that count as web scraping?

I know this is a bit of a legal question and I should ask this to a lawyer, but I'm just curious what your thoughts are and if you have ever done something like this before.

Thanks.

Edit: I know that for this specific platform, it is allowed, but what are your general thoughts?
