What if Earth had no satellites in orbit but we still somehow communicate with the Apollo astronauts on their way to the moon?

The premise is exactly what it says on the tin. I don't know if anyone here has actually mapped the Apollo relay communications network, but if someone has, it entirely depends on Earth’s satellites in orbit to work. The premise is based on a hypothetical scenario where there are no satellites in orbit but somehow the Apollo spacecraft is still able to communicate with ground control. <br><br>What are the consequences?
