Do rich people buy boyfriends/girlfriends?

I know it's a long title, but it's all about the money.<br>I'm living in France and I came across with the concept of "lover" or "sugar lover" or something similar, and I would like to know how common it is for rich people to pay their partner to be their boyfriend/girlfriend.<br>Do rich people do that? Do they pay their partner?<br>Can someone give me a score on the commonality of that action?<br>I know people don't like to talk about that, but I'd like to know if it's a common thing to do,or if I can call bullshit on it.<br><br>Edit 1: I'm not sure if I should be ashamed or not about this, but as someone mentioned in the comments, this is very common in Students, as many girls I know have a sugar daddy.<br>Is it weird that students have sugar daddies? Or is it a common practice?<br><br>Edit 2: Many people are saying that this is a prostitution, but for me it's not. I may be wrong in that regard.<br>When a person pays for a prostitute, they are just paying to fuck, while in a girlfriend(boyfriend) situation, people are paying for feelings. <br><br>Edit 3: I understand that this is a very controversial topic and the question creates a lot of debates, but this is what I wanted to attract with this topic. <br><br>Edit 4: Students aren't usually rich. They can't afford a sugar baby if they aren't rich. University is super expensive in the US and other countries and they can't afford to pay for it. <br><br>Edit 5: I'm not saying that all of "Lover" things are done by rich people, but I'm asking if rich people do that.
