Why do people choose to live in N.Y.C., for example, with all its expenses? We’re moving from Florida to Minnesota to downsize our expenses so we can save more and retire sooner.

These were the two cities that offered jobs, so we made the decision to move. I know that Minneapolis is also expensive, but nothing like New York. I don’t want to judge others for their choices, but I don’t understand why. I believe that my husband and I are going to be so much happier being able to save and work less.
