Here's the truth: the majority of "AI" uses today we will look back on in embarrassment and disgust, in a similar vein to how the internet was used from 1995-2002.

The internet has only been around for less than 40 years. But look at the leaps in greatness in just the time from 1995-2002, and then look at the internet of today, and how far it has come, the leaps it has taken, the power it now gives us. The leaps in greatness from then to now are staggering. In contrast, the internet from 1995-2002 was mostly dial-up, and even in 2002, broadband was hardly anywhere. It was jittery, and it was slow.

During this time, the internet's uses we looked back on this era in which the internet was mostly used for:

* AOL
* Dial-up modems
* Frustrating modem sounds to connect to the internet
* Page loading speeds at a glacial pace
* Bad, cheap-looking websites and/or lack of them
* Older people wondering, what the hell is this internet thing?
* 56k "broadband" which admittedly, was the first step towards this becoming a mainstream, normal part of our lives
* Badly, pixelated graphics and/or lack of them
* Awful, jittery images and/or lack of them
* Lack of "real-time" updates...or updates, period
* Scams
* Spam
* Viruses
* Older people asking why we can't do things the "good old days" way, and the internet being a luxury and not a necessity

Now today, we have none of this anymore. Of course there are still some viruses, spam, and scams, but a lot less than there was back then. But ask yourself, did we really use all of the internet's features correctly back in the early days? The answer is no, we did not. And we look back on those times in disgust, thinking a lot of it was a waste of time.

Fast forward to 2023, and this is what we get with AI:

* ChatGPT (which is really just an overhyped search engine, do you remember how awful Google was in the early days, now it's a great search engine)
* Viruses
* Scams
* Spam
* Lack of content which is "quality" (i.e. your cousin using a free AI website to create those awful, jittery images and pretend they are an artist, and wasting hours of their day on a stupid website)
* Mass, mass, mass unemployment, and the complete lack of a plan from corporate and governments to help them in their next venture
* Cheap, low-quality graphics and/or lack of them
* Lack of "real-time" updates
* Job displacement, with the majority of it being pointless, such as cows with massive, grotesque breasts to create more milk
* Awful, jittery images and/or lack of them
* Lack of "real-time" updates...or updates, period
* Wealth transfer from job displacement, the lack of a plan to help these people, and the massive amount of wealth it is transferring to the ultra rich
* Older people wondering, what the hell is this AI thing?
* Lack of content which is "quality" (i.e. a lot of new music which is AI created, when the normal stuff is a lot better)
* Awful, pixelated graphics and/or lack of them
* An entire generation of people growing up, where a lot of them (but not all, don't get me wrong here) are now going to be the AI generation instead of the internet generation, and the wasting of their potential to become great which AI has ruined

So the uses, and the effects of AI, are hardly different than the internet was back in the day. But now, look at the internet. It is great. It has come a long way. We did not use it's features correctly in the beginning, and we did not create a good society we were happy with. But now, the internet is leaps and bounds better than it was back then.

Despite the "leaps and bounds," the internet did not become the greatest tool humanity has ever created in the early days. Today, we look back on how we used the internet back in the day in embarrassment and disgust, but now we have learned its features more correctly.

The internet is now the greatest tool humanity has ever created. The internet is the greatest tool we've ever had, and we hardly knew what to do with it back then. But it's still the greatest tool we've ever had, even after all of the mistakes we made with it.

So why are so many people today saying that AI is the greatest tool humanity has ever created? It is not, it is far, far, from it, and we hardly know what to do with it right now, and a lot of the time it is used for waste and crap, and a lot of it is used in a way that is just outright terrible.

The early internet was not the greatest tool humanity has ever created. But now, it is.

And right now, early AI is not the greatest tool humanity has ever created. But I wonder if that won't be the case in 20 years.
