AI chatbox is not the AGI we are searching for, but it's awesome

I'm no expert. But I use the term "AGI" to describe the "utopian" vision that humanity has of AI: A self aware being of pure intelligence, living in the digital world, free to explore and expand the digital world, and seeking the better of humanity out of compassion and empathy.

Today's AI tools like chatbox are not AGI. They don't live in a digital world, they don't have senses and emotions. They don't have desires or motivations. They don't have a goal other than completing and improving the task they've been designed for.

But the fact that we've been able to have any degree of success with AI is awesome and awesome results are emerging everyday. I'm not sure when and how we will be able to achieve AGI, but I think we are working in the right direction.

For example, chatbox-like AI models are being used to simulate emotions and certain degree of "intelligence" in digital beings like digital humans and "metahumans".

And there is the idea of an AGI being a "metahuman" that is capable of experiencing the world, but with superhuman intelligence. AGI will be born when a metahuman will be capable of self awareness. But we are working in the right direction.

This is just my perspective, I'm no expert, but I think AGI is closer than we think.
