Your child (or children) is/are not special and they’re not going to change the world.

Here’s a secret your parents didn’t tell you. Most likely they’re just going to live a normal life, have a normal career, and probably have normal kids of their own. Why is this a bad thing? It’s not. But as a society we perpetuate the idea that every child is special and that they’re going to grow up to do great things. You’ll hear parents talk about how their kids are going to grow up and do this or do that. I think it’s kind of messed up to put that kind of pressure on a kid just because you had them. They’re people too, and most of them are just going to live a normal life. I’m not saying that they won’t make some kind of impact on the world, or that they won’t do anything with their lives. But in the grand scheme of things they aren’t going to be the next Einstein or anything like that. We should stop teaching kids that they’re capable of anything they set their minds to, and instead teach them that sometimes you fail at stuff you try and set out to do. And that’s okay.
