I'm not a fan of Chan history, but why does anyone go on other imageboards?

How do these smaller boards stay alive? What do people get out of it that they didn't here? Grow to know the people there? Be "in the know" of a smaller circle? What do people get out of it? How do they sustain? I really do not understand. Literally, no interest in that. This is the final stop, but it's like another universe to know other boards besides 4chan exist.
