CMV: Without the internet, no one on Chambers would know that there is a different view on anything but their own

My dad is 70 and has never been on the internet. He gets all of his news from newspapers, TV news channels and political talk shows. Unless someone physically came to his town and physically told him, there would be no other way for him to know that there is another perspective on anything. I'm not saying he wouldn't have an opinion on things, but he would not know that the other side even existed.

On the internet, we are flooded with other people's views. I find it impossible to believe that anyone who has been on the internet for more than 2 years is unaware that there are other perspectives on things.

I think a lot of people claim ignorance to try to get out of accepting they are wrong when their opinion is challenged. "I didn't know about that" is used to try and discredit the person pointing out the flaw in their argument. But the person claiming ignorance is the one who should be discredited because they are hiding behind ignorance when it comes to their opinion, instead of admitting that they are wrong.

Edit: I think some people are missing my point. The point is that without the internet, the average person would be unaware that there are different opinions on topics that do not effect their everyday lives. For example, my dad has no idea that there is a debate over whether students should be able to carry guns. His university is in Canada and no one in Canada is trying to allow students to bring guns onto campus. Without the internet, he would have no reason to even know that this is something people talk about. This goes for many other topics. A rancher in a small town in Montana may not have any idea that there is a debate on whether we should make cow burps illegal. Without the internet, people who do not have a reason to be aware of certain topics would have no way of knowing about them unless someone physically told them about it.

Edit 2: Please read the post before commenting. It's not about politics or about opinions from different countries. It's about opinions that the average person would not know about if they didn't have the internet. Small town residents have no reason to know about issues or concerns that effect big cities. Without the internet, someone who grew up their whole life in a small town would have no way of knowing about such issues or that there are even different opinions on them
