Apple's been slapped with an order to unlock phone of someone in the San Bernardino case and I think there's going to be more and more of these requests in the future.

I'm sure you guys know that Apple has an end-to-end encryption of text messages and that only the sender and recipient can legally read them. What governments (and people) want is for Apple to create a backdoor so they can read those messages for their own purposes. A lot of people think that governments are just looking to spy on us and that they'll use backdoors to get into our phones and legally snoop on us.

I think there's a point where Apple and Google will have to allow governments to get into phones because they'll be used as evidence in legal cases. I mean, there's this case in the UK where an Islamic State Bomber text messaged his friend who is now on trial, and the prosecution want to lift text messages off the bomber's phone because it will be used as evidence in the case. The guy's defending team has argued that they need to see the messages the bomber sent to see the guy's intent.

What do you guys think? Do you think that Google and Apple will allow governments to unlock phones in very serious cases like these?
