Why does no one talk about the fact that the US is 'pretty much' affordability already?

I'm planning on moving to the US in about two years with my wife and kids and already I'm seeing that rent prices are crazy and driving prices are rising. They can't stay this way forever but I've had a number of people just say that prices can keep rising and it's just something you have to deal with. They have always been this way and will get higher. I'm wondering why no one thinks it's a big deal because something has to change eventually.
