My friend was fired for project he gave me to help him with

My friend project was to make 2 programs communicate in real time and i helped him and got it working. project went to his boss and he was fired because he did something wrong and he says it was my code because i used sockets and boss has no clue about programming. I am devastated how can project go wrong i tested it in many ways and how i can defend myself. Thank you
