I am not a gun grabber, but guns are a menace.

**tl;dr**: I am not against legal gun ownership but I believe that the right to bear arms does not supersede the right to life. I've been a inactive gun owner for years and have been on the fence about getting rid of all my guns because of all the senseless gun violence. I am leaning towards keeping them but will continue to keep them locked up and out of reach as I have been.

I am not here to debate. I am not here to change your mind. I am here to just state how I feel and provide a reality check for some of you. I am not anti-gun, but I am not in love with them anymore.

**Why I own guns:** I grew up in a hunting family. I was never a fan but I would go with my dad because it was a way for us to bond. I was never allowed to have a real gun as a kid, but when I turned 18 my dad took me to the gun store with him and he bought me my first Glock. I had no idea what to expect when I went in and was surprised at how thorough the background check was and how expensive the gun was. It was almost $1k for everything. I had to wait months before I could pick it up. After that I became obsessed with guns. I bought a few more but realized that I would never be able to carry because I was in school for healthcare and I didn't want to risk losing a job I love over a stupid gun on campus.

**Why I am questioning my rights:** Over the years I started to lose interest in guns. I would go to the range a couple times a year and that's it. I had a few friends that were super gun happy and they would drag me to the range and to gun shows. I've lost count of how many mass shootings occurred since Obama was president but it seems like they really started getting more media attention these last couple of years. Recently my feelings have gone from "fuck mass shootings" to "fuck the damn gun owners." When I used to hear about mass shootings I would group the shooter and the gun owners together in a "fuck mass shootings" bucket. I now have a new bucket called "fuck gun owners" because I don't see them doing anything about the mass shootings. I think it's garbage when people say "well, we can't just take away everyone's guns." To that I say why not? Just because you have the right to own a gun doesn't mean that you should.

**Why I am not getting rid of my guns:** I am not getting rid of my guns yet but I am questioning whether or not I really want to keep them. I would definitely sell them before I would turn them in but I don't think I'm ready to get rid of them yet. I have a bunch of fond memories of shooting with my dad and I just can't bring myself to get rid of them, but I will admit that they have become a hassle to keep and they are a reminder of all the lost lives. I will continue to keep them unloaded, locked up, and out of sight.

I am not a gun grabber, but I believe that the right to bear arms does not supersede the right to life. There are too many guns in circulation and too many people are dying.

Let me know what you think.

**Edit:** I apologize to those I offended. I am still in support of the second amendment and the right to bear arms. My faith in humanity is dwindling though. I am not saying that all gun owners are bad, but something needs to change and I'm not sure what that is.
