How did ancient Rome begin?

I hope I'm posting in the right subreddit. <br><br>I recently learned that Rome was founded around 750B.C., then in 509 B.C. the monarchy period ended and the Roman Republic was established. <br><br>It seems like the earliest history of Rome was somehow skipped. <br><br>Was Rome actually founded by Romulus and Remus as the myths describe? Or were they at the same location and had a different name?
