$250 fee to have a Joint account? Is that normal?

I recently signed up for a Schwab backdraft account for my emergency fund with my wife as joint account holder. The account rep went over all the fine print before we signed the papers and everything seemed good. We were expecting a $50 fee to get a debit card in the mail, we were told that fee will be waived once we go to the bank branch to verify our IDs.

The strange part was that she told us there is a $250 fee per year for having a joint account. She then told us that the $250 fee will be waived for the first year because we were signing up for a new account.

That doesn't feel right. I'm not sure if it's normal across all banks, but none of my other bank accounts had fees for having a joint account holder.

TLDR: am I missing something?
