Why do people think the AI will be capable of anything?

“The AI will give you better advice than your doctor!” Because somehow the AI knows anything about your specific situation you’re in, in the specific clinic or hospital you’re in, and you’d just happen to know everything about your situation that your doctor knows about it. Or the AI is capable of talking to your doctor and the staff or looking through some secret database of patient information that you and your doctor don’t have access to. <br><br>Also, the AI can know all these things about you that your doctor knows because you’ll be talking to the AI for an hour prior to your appointment. It’s not like you’d just walk into the doctor’s office and they would look at your previous visits and know what your story is already. <br><br>The AI is just going to know everything about your situation that the doctor does. It’s not like going to the doctor will be a 10 minute affair just asking questions about what’s been going on with you. <br><br>“The AI will be able to do all your work for you!” Because somehow the AI knows how to do your job, but also knows everything about what you’ve done and haven’t done yet. So the AI can just pick up where you left off and do the next thing you were going to do. <br><br>Does anyone think about the amount of information a person has to know in order to do someone else’s job? If this AI can be in someone’s head and know everything they know, then maybe you have a case, but when you have to teach the AI all these things beforehand, then you’ve already been doing everything you need to do in order to train the AI to do it. So then you can just go do your job instead of teaching the AI how to do it. <br><br>Or maybe the AI can just know all this information from a database of what everyone does at their job. But who is going to have access to that database? How will the AI even know which database to go to? For my specific job, in my specific city, working for my specific company, for all the specific tasks I had to do for my specific job at this specific company? <br><br>“The AI will be able to write any story you want!” Do you know how hard it is to write a good story? The AI will just be able to make something up out of thin air, and it will be the perfect story in the specific genre or style you want? What genre or style? Because you’d just happen to know all these different possibilities that exist that the AI won’t know about. <br><br>And what if you want it to be a specific length? How do you teach a machine what a good story is? Do you just tell it to write a good story? That’s about as vague as telling a human “go make a good movie.” The AI can’t even know how to make a movie, let alone make a good movie. <br><br>“The AI will be able to make a perfect video game for what you want!” How can a machine possibly know how to make a video game? Do you know how many aspects you have to consider when making a video game? How do you make a machine understand what a video game is? How do you make a machine understand what a game is? <br><br>Do you just tell the machine “make a video game”? Can you imagine how vague that would be? It would be like telling a person to just make a video game. <br><br>And how is the machine going to know how to do any of these things? How is the machine going to know how to make something in a specific genre or style? How do you make something in a specific genre or style? Are you just going to tell the machine to make something in a specific genre or style? <br><br>How do you make a machine understand what a specific genre or style is? It’s not like the machine is going to have some sort of deep understanding of what a specific genre or style is. How could a machine possibly understand that? What makes you think that a machine could understand that? <br><br>How are you going to teach a machine to make something in a specific genre or style? There is no way a machine could possibly do that. The machine doesn’t even have a basic understanding of what a video game is or what a specific genre or style is. <br><br>You would have to explain everything to the machine before it could possibly do any of this. It’s not like the machine can just figure it out. It’s not like it’s going to go learn about video games, what makes a good video game, how to make a video game, and all that. It’s not like it’s going to go learn about the specific genre or style you want. It’s just going to be able to do all this somehow, right? <br><br>How is a machine supposed to know how to make a perfect video game for what you want? What information is the machine supposed to have access to? How can it possibly know what you want? Do you just tell it “make a perfect video game for what I want?” How is the machine supposed to know what that is? What makes you think a machine could possibly know what that is? <br><br>What information is the machine supposed to have access to? It’s not like the machine is going to have some sort of deep understanding of who you are, what you like, what you don’t like, and what you would want in a video game. What makes you think a machine could possibly have any of that information or that it could possibly access any of that information? <br><br>How is a machine supposed to be able to do all this? It’s not like it’s going to have any actual understanding of anything or that it’s going to be able to figure anything out. You’re going to have to explain everything to it. You’re going to have to explain what a game is, what a video game is, how to make a video game, and all that. <br><br>You’re going to have to explain what a specific genre or style is, how to make something in a specific genre or style, and all that. You’re going to have to explain what you want, how to do what you want, and all that. <br><br>You have to explain everything to the machine because it doesn’t have any actual understanding of anything. It doesn’t have any ability to figure anything out. It can’t make anything up. It can’t come up with anything on its own. <br><br>You have to tell it exactly what to do and how to do it. So why bother with the machine? Why not just do everything yourself? You’re going to have to do everything yourself anyway. You’re going to have to do all the work of explaining everything to the machine. <br><br>So then the machine can just do everything for you? Who cares about that? You’ve already done all the work. You’ve already explained everything to the machine. You already know how to do everything. <br><br>So why not just do everything yourself? You can do everything yourself. So why bother with the machine? What’s the point of the machine? There is no point. The machine isn’t going to be able to do anything for you. <br><br>It’s not like the machine is going to have any actual understanding of anything.
