I get the feeling that many people's opinion on mental health is hypocritical. Just to clarify, I am not saying *everyone* is a hypocrite. But I am saying that most people, myself included, are. I'm calling myself out too.

My entire argument is based off of my own observations in society and my own personal opinions which everyone is clearly entitled to. I am **not** trying to belittle or make fun of people who suffer from mental illnesses in any way. I do feel terrible for those who struggle with their mental health and my heart goes out to them.

Now, before I start, I'd like to clarify what I mean by the term 'mental health'. I am not referring to brain diseases (Parkinson's, Schizophrenia, Autism, etc.) but more brain states and disorders (anxiety, depression, ADHD, bipolar disorder, etc.). Again, I'm not making fun of people who suffer from these types of disorders.

So now onto my points;

* **There's a massive stigma surrounding mental health.** The entire point of this chamber is to change people's opinion, and yet some mental health organisations are saying that we shouldn't try to help people's mental health. They just say that if you have a disorder like this it's perfectly fine, and that we should accept people with disorders without trying to help them.

Now, I completely understand that we shouldn't make fun of people for their disorders and we should definitely be compassionate and empathetic. But aren't we indirectly making fun of them if we're just going to accept them for who they are instead of trying to help them become a better person? That first sentence feeds into my next point;

* **Mental health awareness is bullshit.** Now, I feel like awareness can help in some ways. But in today's society, so many people are talking about how we need to be more empathetic towards people with disorders. But most people don't even know how to help. Many people who talk about mental health are clueless, and their attempts at helping can be futile. We don't even know how to help ourselves, let alone others. I'm not saying that we should completely disregard mental health and just laugh at people for their disorders. But we need to sit down and talk to medical professionals before we give advice.

I've also seen so many people use mental health as an excuse. I'm not saying that this applies to everyone, but I've heard people use anxiety as an excuse to skip school, or use depression as an excuse to skip work. I'm not saying that everyone who suffers from a mental disorder uses it as an excuse, but it's pretty apparent that a lot of people do. I'm not saying that we should completely invalidate everyone who suffers from a mental disorder, as some people do actually suffer from them. But it's obvious that a lot of people who use mental health as an excuse do not suffer from any disorders.

* **I don't want to sound like an anti-vaxxer, but I think that many mental health medications are terrible.** Now, I completely understand that many people rely on medication to function, and that's fine. But I don't think that we should just give out pills to anyone who has a disorder. Obviously this doesn't apply to everyone, but in a lot of cases, medical professionals just throw out pills at people instead of actually trying to help them. There are way too many side effects, and most people are way too dependent on them to function.

* **Saying that your mental health is more important than your physical health is insane.** Now, I understand that your physical health wouldn't be good if your mental health wasn't good. But if your mental health is bad and your physical health is good, you can use those physical health to improve your mental health. On the other hand, if your mental health is good but your physical health is bad, you can't use your mental health to improve your physical health.

So, what do you think? Is everyone's opinion on mental health hypocritical?
