I used to be very excited about psychedelic drugs and believed that they would bring about major change. However, I now feel that psychedelics are often used as an excuse for people not to do anything in the real world.

Humans have been aware of these substances for thousands of years and have accomplished nothing. As someone who is very passionate about ending the therapeutic use of non-human animals, I see a ton of people who are excited about psychedelics but do very little to bring about real change in the world.

I remember listening to a podcast where Andrew Yang said that he used DMT and saw machine elves that told him that the way forward is universal basic income. The fact that people think that taking a psychedelic and then receiving some message from the “universe” is somehow going to lead to widespread legislative change is very silly in my opinion.

I’m not saying that that psychedelics don’t have a place in society, I’m saying that the general attitude towards them is extremely naive. I think we should view psychedelics as a useful substance for therapy, similar to how SSRIs can be useful in certain situations. However, I don’t think that they should be seen as some kind of revolutionary drug that will change the world for the better.
