I’ve been to over 40 countries in 3 years. I never want to see a single tourist spot again.

I travel extensively for work. I average around 12 countries a month. It can be exhausting, and the time spent on planes is grueling. There are some perks though. With all my travel, I get to see some really cool places.

I’ve been to over 40 countries now, and I’ve started to realize how jaded I am getting. At first I was excited to seeing all the major tourist spots. The Eiffel Tower, The Almudena Cathedral, the Acropolis, Trafalgar Square, the Coliseum, the Pantheon, seeing a show at the Scala, etc. The more I see these places the less I care. At this point I’d rather see a random street festival in a small town than to see the Uffizi Gallery. I’d rather see a random guy play guitar on the street than I would see some huge performance of La Bohème.

I’m not seeing the corners of the world that most people don’t see. That’s exciting at first, but after you’ve seen the main tourist spots in dozens of cities, it gets old. I miss the idea of being able see some random street performer in Nashville play the harmonica with his feet, or see some local band do a tiny show in a hole in the wall bar in Seattle.

I’m tired of seeing famous landmarks. I’m tired of being a tourist. I’m tired of seeing the city from the inside of a hotel room. Although I’m traveling extensively, I miss travel.
