CMV: Black lives matter and this movement is important, but I'm not going to blindly support them until they get their shit together.

I am a white, suburban man, so naturally I have no idea what it is like to go through the kind of oppression that black people in the US do. I can't imagine what it must feel like to be oppressed for your entire life due to your skin color. No one should go through that kind of thing ever. That being said, I will not blindly support Black Lives Matter (BLM) until they get their shit together and are actually a positive force for change. Right now they are doing more to tear this country apart and are only making things worse for black people. Today was a perfect example of this. 5 cops in Dallas were shot and several more injured by a BLM supporter, who was angry over the events in Minnesota this week. Shall we go over what happened in Minnesota? A man was pulled over by a cop, and was told not to move. The man attempted to go for his gun, and the cops shot him point blank in the head, blowing his face off. The man died at the scene, and his girlfriend recorded the whole event from the passenger seat. This is clearly an abuse of power, and the cop should be brought up on charges. Now, the BLM movement has used this event as an excuse to protest.

This brings me to why I believe BLM is not a positive force for change. They are doing nothing but inciting violence and making the lives of black people worse. By stating that all cops are racist and out to get black people, they are undermining the efforts of good cops, and are causing them to be put in danger. The cops are supposed to protect all US citizens, no matter their race. They are supposed to serve justice and keep the peace, and most of the time they do. Just because some police officers abuse their powers and are horrible people, does not mean that all cops are. Just like how just because some black people are terrible people and do terrible things, does not mean that every black person is the same. The BLM movement needs to realize this, or they will never gain traction and make the US a better place for black people.

Edit: I realize now that the title does not accurately convey the same message as the post. I do believe BLM has the potential to be a powerful force for good. I do believe that black lives matter and equal treatment for them is very important. The problem is that right now BLM is not a positive force for change, and my CMV is that the movement needs to change and stop being violent and inciting hatred.
