How do publishers feel about names, terms and locations being used from public domain works of fiction.

A couple of questions:

1: Would it be legal for me to use locations from mythology like Asgard, the underworld, hell, heaven, elysium, Atlantis or Lemuria. I know that all of the aforementioned are used in other public domain works of fiction but I am still unsure if it would be a problem.

2: Would it be legal for me to use names of fictional characters from mythology like Thor. I’m sure I’ve seen it used in Marvel comics but I believe Thor originates from Norse mythology. However, I’m not sure if the name Thor can be used without copyright issues with Marvel.

3: Would it be legal to use terms from other fictional works of fiction like mana and magic. In D&D magic and mana are used interchangeably, in other works of fiction magic and mana are more separated. Magic is the ability to do magic. Mana is the magical energy that is used to do magic.

I don’t plan on directly copying anything. I simply want to use terms, locations and names from other works of fiction and implement them into my idea.
