Every time someone says that "communism isn't inherently evil" I imagine what it's like to do forced labor in a Soviet Gulag.

I'm an American, and here, we have this popular notion that Republicans entertain that communism is inherently evil. And while I think communism is pretty ass, I never bought into that notion. I always believed that everyone ought to be treated with respect and kindness, even if I didn't agree with their political views.

But what really got me thinking about communism was this class I'm taking called "Women in and through War, and Revolution". In short, that very same notion I held about all people nearing my worldview came crashing down. If you don't know this already, I encourage you to Google what I mentioned in the title. It wasn't "capitalism" that killed millions of people- people died due to the actions of communists.

I don't think I ever would have understood this if I hadn't been exposed to the brutality that communism has taken, not only on the people who fought for it, but those who suffered under it as well.

It's not about the ideology being inherently evil. It's that we should not entertain the idea of "communism" without considering the horrific aftermath it brings. Communism is bad. Any person arguing otherwise is either ignorant to the reality of what communism brings or being gaslighted by the same notion I once held.
