This announcement of Street Fighter 6 got me thinking about how many fighting games are now being translated into anime.

Tekken: Bloodline is one of the best anime of the year and Arc System Works just got a bunch of new collaborations (Dragon Ball FighterZ, Capcom Fighting Collection, Project L, Guilty Gear & Strive Season Pass 2).

There is no way Capcom will not see the success of Arc System Works and Bandai Namco and not think about doing a Street Fighter anime as well.

This is Capcom and Street Fighter we are talking about, not some indie video game that would struggle to be a workable anime. It is just too big of an opportunity to miss, now with their new in-house anime studio Anima.

**POSSIBLE SPOILERS AND THEORIES AHEAD**

So I looked at the Capcom announcement and the trailer and I have an educated guess:

Given how the world map already showed a bunch of locations (Fukuoka, Paris, South America, Dubai, San Francisco, Rio, Shanghai) and how the characters and voice lines were showcased, I have a pretty good idea of where they are going with this.

They will use the world map to showcase the different fighters from different places and cultures. The game will show the journey of each fighter as they go around the world and beat people in their "home turf". The anime is going to be about Luke (a character from the US) and a character from China (Li-Fen) traveling around the world and fighting each other.

The voice lines were in a bunch of languages and the trailer was showcasing the art from each location. See the visuals from the Paris segment, it is already animated.

They are also already touting Street Fighter 6 as some kind of next gen game, but what exactly does that mean? We see in the trailer the game being played while the crowd is cheering in the background, like it is a sport. They are going into this direction of Street Fighter as a type of martial art competition to be watched and enjoyed like any other professional sport. This is a great idea for an anime, now we see if they manage to execute it.

One of the developers said he wants the game to be played by the average joe, which likely means that they are not gonna go into this hyper-realistic photorealistic type of visuals that are popular on Western games.

One of the issues that usually holds back fighting games from crossing over into mainstream gaming is how ridiculously hard they are to play and master. It is always the same problem, a barrier of entry that needs to be crossed by any player.

The solution Capcom found to address this is by using this type of "input delay" where the system pressures you to play the game at a pace that is easy to follow, so that the game is more fun to be watched, not only for the player.

It is a great concept that will help developing a strong connection with the audience, which likely explains why Street Fighter 6 is so hyped. It is not just a new fighting game, it is a type of game that is yet to be seen.
