\*\*The TL;DR is: Uncompromising radical environmentalism will lead to extreme and violent conflicts between environmentalists and business, including wars, mass displacement of people and more suffering than good.\*\*

\*\*

The more I hear and see and read about extreme environmentalism, the more it convinces me that this will lead to a world conflict instead of saving the planet. If we consider that the biggest polluters are also the biggest economic powers, the biggest drivers of international trade, the biggest industries and the biggest employers of people, we don't have to search far for stark contrasts and different opinions on what would be a good approach to saving the planet.

Radical environmentalists would wish for an end to the growth of these economies, the shutdown of these industries and the collapse of the very systems that feed, clothe, educate and house the people in the world.

I genuinely believe that this radical approach will lead to increasing tensions between opposing groups, ranging from contractors who's livelihoods depend on these industries to workers who are employed in them, farmers who's crops are seen as a polluter, politicians who rely on these businesses to operate, and so on.

If tensions are rising, and the extreme environmentalists are increasing the level of violence and aggression in their actions, ranging from blocking streets and traffic to setting cars on fire, destroying property, invading homes of CEOs and attacking them, will eventually lead to fights and I fear that it will lead to an all out war, instead of bringing the opposing parties to the negotiation table.

This conflict will lead to sovereign nations entering conflicts with other nations that see the economic future of their country at risk. It will lead to mass refuge crises as areas are devastated and people are displaced. As more and more people are displaced, it will lead to the destruction of even more natural habitats. Desperate people will have to resort to more unorthodox methods of getting by and this will be at the cost of the environment.

In the end, the war over the environment will ruin the environment. In the end, extreme environmentalism will not save the planet. In the end, we'll all be worse off for it.

\*\*The only way to save the planet is to save humanity first.\*\*

\*\*

Edit: It seems that a lot of environmentalists are really against nuclear power, and against desalination (or even irrigation projects). I think that nuclear power and desalination plants can concievably supply the whole world with clean energy and clean water. Why are people so against it?
