Why do people buy the cheap stuff?

I’m on a budget, but I can never justify buying the “value” brands of anything. A 24 pack of dodgy chicken breasts for £7 sounds like a bargain, but you get what you pay for.

That’s not chicken, it’s water and bone dust. I’d rather spend more money on good quality chicken breasts every week than eating them mysterious slices that have been injected with water.

I’d let me get one thing straight before we get into this, I’m not saying that anyone should be buying Wagyu and caviar. I’m just saying, that with a bit of planning and being smart with your shopping, there’s no need to eat crap.

It’s all about flavour and nutrient density.

I buy a chicken breast every week and that’s absolutely fine, it’s not like I’m missing out on anything because “I can’t afford” to eat chicken breast. I don’t eat that much, so I don’t have to break the bank to eat well.

A big pack of chicken breasts will cost more than a small pack of dodgy chicken breasts. But how much of that big pack of chicken breasts is actually chicken? How much of it is water that they’ve injected into the meat to make it look bigger than it actually is?

I’d rather eat two chicken breasts in one sitting that are just chicken, than 4 chicken breasts and knowing that half of the weight is water and salt.

Similarly, a 24 pack of eggs will be cheaper than a 12 pack of eggs, but what are you getting out of those eggs?

You can’t put a price on how nutritious something is, but that doesn’t mean you need to put out even more money to eat well. I don’t eat very much and I don’t want to consume anything that I don’t need to.

I don’t want to be bloated because I’m eating the cheap stuff. I buy a small pack of eggs, because it’s enough for me and I know that I’m getting something out of them.

I like to think of my body as an incredibly expensive sports car, I need to put the best fuel into it to make sure it runs properly and I can get the most out of it.

I don’t want to eat anything that isn’t going to give me anything that I need. I need protein, carbs, fibre, vegetables and fat. Not strange gloop that’s been injected into my chicken breasts.

So yeah, I’d rather save money in other areas and buy better quality food than eat crap.

I’ve done both and I know what I prefer.

Also if you want to know more about meal prep then check out my page where I post high quality meal prep recipes and high quality meal prep tips that you can implement into your daily life.
