Scenario: you've only got 5 minutes before they kick you out. You are being watched by 2 employees who are 'wandering' and looking at you occasionally. You know the average botch rate is 20% which takes up 2 minutes of the 5 minutes you have to steal.

Using these numbers you know that you can only go for 3 products for a total of 4.8 minutes, which leaves just enough time to pay and leave. 4 minutes of stealing and 48 seconds to botch.

If you want to try for 4 products, you now will need 5.3 minutes, which is more than you have. 5.3 minutes-1 minute for paying will leave you 20 seconds to botch. If you are 20% botched, you WILL be caught.

So, if you run scenarios like this it will help you be more organised and calm and never run out of time. You can go for a fourth product but you need to set in place more mitigants in order to do so, such as using a decoy to make it more difficult for them to catch you.

I hate seeing people with a sloppy strategy.

You MUST steal for what you need and mathematically, you can't always take the risk of stealing more.
