Is it true that the more you are paid the more money you are expected to make?

I can’t understand the concept of the entire team being expected to meet X amount of money each month just because you are paid more. I understand if it’s salary based, but what if we have a good month and the next month is bad, we’re still expected to make the same amount of money the next month. <br><br>I don’t know much about business or sales but if I was to make more money I want it to be based on performance.
