This is the first time I’m sharing this story, and I have a feeling it will be the last as well because I do not like thinking about it and I prefer to block it out of my mind, but I want you guys to be aware of this and keep an eye out for your kids.

When I was about 5 or 6 years old I went to the mall with my dad and grandpa, and the mall was pretty packed for that time of day because it was closing soon and everybody was rushing to get what they wanted. The three of us separated for about 10 mins because my grandpa wanted to go check on the sports store, and my dad wanted to go look at shoes. So I went with my dad and when we were looking at a bunch of different shoes there was this other guy around my dads age or maybe even a little older who was also looking at shoes. But this guy was looking at my dad and was watching our every move while my dad didn’t even notice because he was distracted. He asked my dad a few questions and my dad was being friendly and answered them. However, I noticed the man staring at me for a good 5 mins while he was making small talk with my dad. I felt uncomfortable and my dad notice that something was wrong with me so he asked if I was okay and I told him I wasn’t feeling good and wanted to go find grandpa. So we went to find him and when we did I told my grandpa what was happening and he immediately suggested that we go get something to eat at the food court. My grandpa had a habit of listening to people and making up his own judgements in his head, some people might call it being paranoid but he was usually right. So we went to Wendy’s and ordered some chicken nuggets, and while we were eating there the man from the shoe store walked by and looked at us and then left. My grandpa immediately got up and went to look at the shoe store we were at and when he came back he had a very concerned look on his face, and he said the man was gone but thought something fishy was going on and suggested that we go home. I wanted to stay but my grandpa was so persistent and made me and my dad go home. And we did end up leaving only for me to later find out that the man who was at the shoe store was caught that night at the mall and was arrested because him and his friend who was waiting near the parking lot were a part of a human trafficking ring and they had abducted a girl around my age at the mall that night and they were caught by a mall cop. The man who was at the shoe store was the distraction while the friend abducted the girl. And if it wasn’t for my grandpa who is no longer with us I have a feeling my life would have taken a whole different path that night.

So please, if you have kids or little siblings be careful when you are out in public and always keep an eye out on them because you never know what can happen in a split second.

My grandpa passed away in front of me when I was 15, but I will always love him for rescuing me and my family will forever be in his debt.
