I am NOT changing my name

So, my mom and I have had an argument for a while now. She thinks I should change my name. I'm 32 years old and my name is horrible, that's what she says. She says it's not a "girl's name" and it's "a boy's name in a girls body". I have grown up being teased by this name. I was called a tomboy and other names because of it. I was called "the wrong gender" because of it. But my parents chose this name for me and so I grew up with it. I grew up not caring for my name, but I never thought of changing it. I never knew I could change it.

What triggered the argument is when I got a new job last year. I was never in a steady job position until last year. Most of my life I've been a temp employee, working on jobs that never lasted more than a few years. I've been in this one for a year and I like it and it's opened up new career possibilities and I'm really grateful. But my mom has always been the kind of person who doesn't see the big picture. She always has focused on the "here and now"! She doesn't take into consideration that she always has to work extra jobs to make ends meet, that she has no savings to fall back on and so therefore she has always had to struggle. She also doesn't take into consideration that I have in a sense "made it" without her help. I'm not in a vast sea of debt. I don't have to moonlight to make ends meet. I don't have huge loans. I'm making more than she ever has in her life.

Anyway. In the interview for my job, I was asked about my name. My mentor and the other boss were in the interview and they both liked my name and said it was a great name for the career I wanted to go into. They said it was attractive and put together! After the interview, I got a call back with a job offer. I was over the moon.

So I told my parents about this and my mom got upset at me. She said that I "would've been more likable if I had changed my name" and that if I got the job because of my name, then I must "looked really good" (she means that I must have looked pretty to get the job).

Ever since, she has been trying to convince me to change my name. She wants me to change my whole name, first, middle, last. I finally told her that I wouldn't be changing my name and she said "fine. I just think you should carry a prettier name is all."

I'm not changing my name. I like it. I'm happy with it and I'm not changing it.
