I finished my first draft of my sci-fi novel. What's the best way to get it to published?

I managed to at last finish the first draft of my sci-fi novel.

It's at that stage where the manuscript needs rewritten from head to toe, but I get the feeling that this is the last big edit. Everything's at that stage where it makes sense and the story has a start; middle; and end. It's got its twists and turns. A good ending and a good beginning. Not too bad for a first draft.

I've never published anything so I have no idea how to get something published. No idea where to start. I know that I need beta readers, but I also know that you can't ask your friends and family to be them.

I've spent some time on online forums, trying to find beta readers. Not the best. The process has been slow; and I think I've probably got two or three people that I can trust at this point. So I know that this is going to be an ongoing process.

But it's getting to the stage where I need professional advice; I can't keep relying on amateurish input. I need someone who can help me with grammar; syntax; and further develop the ideas.

I don't have the money to pay for a writing coach; that's not something I'm comfortable with. But I do know that I need professional advice moving forward.

So I have to figure out what's the best way to get my book to a publisher? What's the best way to get a publisher to read my book?

I don't know how big publishing is. I don't know what the standard is; I don't know how competitive it is. But I know that I need a publisher to get my book out there. I can't do it on my own. I can't afford to self-publish.

I know that some people will say that self-publishing is the best way to go, but I think that that is only so true for some people. I don't think it's something that will work for me; I don't think I'm really good at marketing myself.

I don't have a social media presence and I don't really want to develop one. I've never really liked social media. So for me getting something published traditionally, that is the best route.

I've tried to look up publishers and literary agents, but there are way too many. So I assume that there are very few contacts that I can turn to.

I've seen advice that says that you should pick out six to ten publishers or literary agents, send it to them; and hope for the best. But I don't know if that's the best idea. I want to make sure that my work is read by someone who understands it, someone who understands the value of my work.

I want to make sure that my work is going to be taken seriously and read by the right person. So what should I do? What is the best way to get someone to take my work seriously?

Thanks for reading.

I have written 114,771 words.
