What does your smart home look like?

I've started thinking about "smart home technology" from a minimalist perspective. Clearly it's not smart to have 100 devices with replaceable batteries, or three echo devices in a 900 sqft home. I personally think paying $4 per month to use Amazon Alexa is NOT worth it to me (I have a free version of this app and it never tells me anything I don't already know-how is that "smart"?). I'm also tired of having Amazon buy things for me via Alexa that I did not intentionally purchase (parents with kids just taking over your voice commands, anyone?). I have loved having smart home devices in the past however, they are just more tidy than standard ones. eg, a smart coffee maker looks modern and clean sitting on my countertop, whereas a "bad ass" coffee mill makes my whole kitchen look like a cluttered nightmare.

So, put in the comments below what your "smart home" looks like, and what changes you've made to reduce your footprint and clutter.

TL;DR Smart home technology and its place in a minimalist home.
