I was brought up thinking that plot plot holes were details in a story that makes it inconsistent and plot conveniences were details that the author wrote in to make the plot easier, but it seems like everyone now is referring to conveniences as plot holes.

For example plot holes are things like plot armor, characters acting inconsistent, unexplained magic, characters not dying in a situation where in real life they would have died, characters forgetting about powers that they had, etc.

Plot conveniences are things like characters always landing on their feet after a high fall, characters waking up from a concussion right as it’s convenient, characters being able to speak multiple languages, characters being able to do anything that the plot calls for, etc.

It seems like in recent years people are calling conveniences plot holes, I’ll see a part in a show where a character is able to do something because the plot calls for it and people will call it a plot hole.

What are your thoughts on this?
