My palm is a forest

The remaining pink fingers tend to tingle<br>With each new leafing plant I bring<br><br>Perhaps she prefers carnivores<br>When she visits in spring<br><br>She comes with arms full and leaves<br>With a gift for my garden to keep<br><br>So I aim to be sprouting<br>What she always seems to be eating<br><br>I yearn to be a forest<br>To one day show her my tree<br><br>I guess I do it for the leaves<br>For the slime and the sap<br>For the worms and the insects<br>For the life that finds a home through it all<br><br>I want to be important<br>But most times I feel<br>Like a silly, weak sprout<br>Being plucked from the earth and peeled<br><br>By those who are stronger than me<br>Who they find sustenance<br>In what I have grown<br><br>But my palm is a forest<br><br>How could you possibly reach<br>For any of the higher branches?<br>—Or do you lean against<br>The tree and take a bite<br>Out of the bark?<br><br>The higher you ascend,<br>The thinner the branches get;<br>You’d likely never reach<br>Past the limbs and the leaves<br><br>Just as how I do<br>When you’re strong, and I’m weak.<br>I try so hard to grow high<br>So you can’t just reach<br>For any of the higher branches.<br><br>But my palm is a forest<br>and my fingers are tender<br><br>Please be gentle.<br><br>Do you know what it’s like<br>To have your meat torn at?<br><br>To be plucked and peeled<br>By those who find sustenance<br>In what you have grown?<br><br>I’d rather be carnivorous<br>And eat something else<br>Than be so weak and tender<br>That I am never else.<br><br>I wish I could be a forest<br>But for now, I am weak<br>I am a sprout still growing<br>From the earth and all its shit<br><br>I just wish that you could see<br>That my palm is a forest<br>And I am not yet ready<br>To be plucked from the earth and peeled<br><br>But I guess I do it for the leaves<br>For the slime and the sap<br>For the worms and the insects<br>For the life that finds a home through it all<br><br>I yearn to be a forest<br>To one day show you my tree<br><br>I wish that you could see<br>That my palm is a forest<br><br>Please be gentle.<br>Or be gone. <br><br>Ignore the formatting; I’m trying to do this on a laptop. <br><br>I am looking for feedback on clarity of message, imagery, and cohesion. <br><br>Thank you for reading.
