Why are people so quick to ignore and downplay blatant racism and anti-Semitism against Jewish people in the West?

I just don't understand why people try to make attacks on Jewish institutions and out-and-out anti-Semitic rhetoric sound less bad than it is, or try to shift the blame onto the victims. I want to believe it's just ignorance, but we all know that there's such a thing as willful ignorance.

And it's not even just that recently. The West has always had a not-so-secret Anti-Semitic streak. Nazi Germany was the one to take it to a new level, but they didn't create it, and after the war, all of the sudden, people just suddenly stopped being racist against blacks and started being better to women? No. It was still a pretty racist society, and even now, there's still many flavors of racism and bigotry alive, but the only one that really gets downplayed is anti-Semitism.

It just absolutely baffles me.
