Does anyone agree that we only think we have free will and we actually are controlled by what we know and the events we experience?

To explain what I'm saying, I believe that our free will is merely an image of free will that we are able to see because the only thing that causes us to make decisions is what we know and the events we have experienced. Emotions play a big role in this as well because we will always go with what feels better for us in the short run. Maybe we realize that our actions are going to cause us harm in the long run, but we will still always choose the short term pleasure because we don't want any current pain. Knowing things about the world and our experiences will always cause us to put our interests first. We don't have the ability to choose irrationally, there will always be a reason for what we do. And we have no control over what we have learned throughout our lives or what has happened to us. So it would only make sense that we don't have a choice in anything that we do. What are your opinions on this? I'm really curious to know because this obviously isn't something we can prove wrong or right.
